Academic Varsity Letters Awarded at Scarpa TEC Dedication Ceremony

June 15, 2017

MILLVILLE, NJ (June 15, 2017) – The John F. Scarpa Technical Education Center of Cumberland County (ScarpaTEC) held an official dedication ceremony on Thursday, June 15, honoring the contribution of Cumberland County entrepreneur and benefactor John F. Scarpa. In November 2016, The John F. Scarpa Foundation made a leadership commitment to the school with an initial pledge of $1 million that will help fund a scholarship program for its students so that their dreams of an advanced education can become a reality.

At the ceremony, the school also awarded 149 academic varsity letters to full-time students who maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher during the first three marking periods of their freshman year.

“Mr. Scarpa’s generous donation will help us to provide scholarships to the next generation of skilled professionals in South Jersey,” said Daniel G. Vivarelli, President of the Cumberland County Board of Vocational Education. “We are deeply thankful for this gift.”

The dedication ceremony included proclamations from President Donald Trump, Congressman Frank LoBiondo, New Jersey Senate President Stephen Sweeney, New Jersey Assembly Deputy Speaker John Burzichelli and New Jersey Assemblyman Adam Taliaferro to honor the school’s milestone. Also speaking were Dina Elliott, CCTEC Superintendent; Joseph Derella, Cumberland County Freeholder Director; and Daniel Vivarelli, President of the Cumberland County Board of Vocational Education.

“I fully support ScarpaTEC’s mission of providing a high-quality technical education right here in Cumberland County,” said John F. Scarpa. “I encourage others to join me in funding scholarships for the enhanced education and technical training ScarpaTEC offers.”

This initial $1 million pledge from the John F. Scarpa Foundation is designed to benefit students by:

  • Providing scholarships for ongoing educational opportunities for qualified youths to develop skills to better themselves and the community in which they live.

  • Supplying ongoing support for the expansion of educational programs.

  • Providing the school and students with the recognition and respect for their many accomplishments on behalf of the region.

  • Encouraging others in Cumberland County to support the school by creating a Development Plan to raise millions of dollars for scholarships in coordination with the John F. Scarpa Technical Education Center Foundation Board.
